Concept Vision Development 2. Armenian regions Methodology of research In this chapter we summarize a context analysis on the main elements that identify the particularity of Armenia. Armenia is a characterized by complex geographical conditions which have an impact in its climate conditions, territory and therefore on its traditional architecture. The topography is used as the main key to discover the individuality of each province with the aim of identifying and classifying its components. Geographic component are mapped in layers to create a dynamic tool to understand trends, relationships and synergies in the territory. This, efectively brought us to assess the key drivers for the project and to recognize the elements to inform and build up a language and a spatial strategy. The conclusion of this phase is a possible classiication of the regions into three main groups. The irst step of the analysis was to familiarize with the available information and study similarities and diferences in order to build up a comprehensive picture and an understanding of Armenian architecture, in order to propose an intervention that could relect such identity. At this stage we have tried to collect a baseline set of information of the condition of each region from a topographical, climatic, cultural and architectonical point of view. 13
