There are other trappings of significance: The toy collection day
event has grown to include an outdoor food court featuring hot dogs,
burgers, subs, cheesesteaks and Zeppole fried fresh while you
wait. And Nicoletti is proud to note that many of the members
who work the event do so on days off, comp time days or having
switched to get the day off to be there.
“We make this drive their drive,” Nicoletti says of his fellow
members. “They work so hard to make it their own, so they raise
toys in their own agencies and run with it. Sure, it started 25
years ago, but it wouldn’t have gotten as big without the men
and women in law enforcement.”
