Local 600 welcomes a familiar PBA face
In the closing weeks of 2014, NJ COPS
sat in on a conversation between Local 600
State Delegate Jim Toma and Alternate
State Delegate Ed Weimmer to discuss how
the former NJ State PBA Board member
plans to spend his retirement years in service to the organization:

union. Tell us about your responsibilities.
Ed Weimmer: I retired on Feb. 28, 2013, from Ocean County Corrections Local 258 after
25 years. I was the State Delegate for a little more than 13 years, and served on the State Executive Board for seven years as the Sergeant-at-Arms and left as a Trustee. I served on several
committees including the Valor Awards, Recruitment and Retention, Legislative, New Delegates, and the Shield Committee. I was also involved in the Peer Liaison Committee; now I’m
still on the committee as a retired member representing Local 600.
JT: When you retired, I asked you if you were still willing and able to provide that kind of
time to the State PBA in a retired mode and assist me. You were quick to say yes, as you have
in the past so many times. What do you hope to do for us?
EW: The day before I retired, I filed my application with Local 600 because I felt that I still
have a lot of drive for PBA. I want to help the membership. We’re still a part of the active
officers, and I wanted to make the transition from active work to retirement, and to help those
retiring understand the benefits available to them during retirement. One of my objectives is
to recruit members as they retire to get involved by assisting us in the new Political Action
