TOMS RIVER LOCAL 137
Making it special for Local’s Special Olympians
Toms River PBA Local 137 members came out in full force
to cheer on the athletes participating in the New Jersey Special
Olympics Area 6 Championships on April 17, at the YMCA in
Toms River.
As Local 137 members cheered on the swimmers during multiple heats, they had the opportunity to present the winners
with the medals at the end of the championship.
“The athletes absolutely loved us,” recognized State Delegate Jesse Robertazzi. “We presented the medals and posed
with them for pictures. They were eating it up, reaching out and
hugging us. They loved the fact that we were police officers and
were there to support them.”
New Jersey Special Olympics Area 6 Director of Volunteers
Sharon Rizzo reached out to the Local and asked them to attend
the event.
“It’s one of the better things we get to do as police officers,”
recognized Robertazzi. “This is what it’s all about. We want to
give back to the people who mean the most to us, especially
the Special Olympics athletes who overcome far more than we
do.”d
