2016 NJSPBA Valor Awards To those who have our back The NJ State PBA thanks those whose valor has contributed greatly to the organization Legislator of the Year Friend in Media The Honorable Vincent Prieto, NJ State Assembly Speaker and Representative from the 32nd District, has become more than an advisor and friend to the NJ State PBA. His guidance and passion for law enforcement have helped further the PBA’s opportunity to have positive and productive relationships throughout NJ state government. And every time Speaker Prieto meets and greets PBA members, his comments are genuine and infectious. You could see his pride when he had the chance to take a photo with all the 2016 Valor Award winners, and he expressed as much when receiving his award. “It is my great pleasure to always be a friend to the PBA,” he began. “I don’t take for granted what you do every day. All I can do is try to have your back and always give you the tools and resources you need. Your president and executive vice president are always calling me to make sure we do the right thing, and we have your back. Be safe, and God bless each and every one of you.” d No member of the mainstream media in New Jersey does more to promote the good and welfare of law enforcement than Bill Spadea, host of “The Morning Drive” Jersey 101.5 (WKXW). Spadea’s Friday spots recognizing NJ heroes have become wildly popular for the sensitivity of telling stories of first responders who have gone above and beyond to show their valor. It’s not unusual to hear Spadea’s passion when telling of an officer who has made a daring rescue, prevented a crime or helped a needy family. And his challenging, thought-provoking interviews with NJ State PBA President Pat Colligan have shed light on many of the important issues in NJ law enforcement. “I would like to hear a round of applause for every one of you heroes in this room,” Spadea told the audience at the Valor Awards. “I want to thank everybody in here because my goal as host on Jersey 101.5 is to tell your stories. And I can promise you that as long as I am behind the mic, you will have an advocate, you will have a spokesperson and, you will have a friend in the media.” d www.njcopsmagazine.com ■ DECEMBER 2016 71
