Firearms Safety Tip: Keep it Clean
Every Police Officer has seen the 10 Fatal Flaws that can
get police officers killed. One of the 10 Fatal Flaws is a dirty
weapon. To me, this is the easiest issue to fix because it is
something that we can control. As much as we say cops are
always in control, and recent events certainly dictate, we
cannot control the traffic, the suspect's action, the nature of
the call, the weather and everything else.
But we can control cleaning our weapons. All officers
should know their weapon; how your weapon breaks down
or comes apart, how to put your weapon back together, how
many rounds go into the magazine, what caliber round your
weapon is and what type of weapon you carry. As a Police
Officer you cannot say that “you are not a gun guy.” Your
weapon is a tool that is on your tool belt and you need to be
proficient with all the tools on your tool belt. Just think if a
carpenter said, “I am not a hammer guy.” How long do you
think that carpenter would be in business and would you
want that guy working on your house? d
