For Local 66 Officer Robert Whartenby,
a rough road finally leads back home

Before his accident, Police Officer Robert Whartenby was part
of Hamilton Township Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit – an
assignment that he had always wanted.
But on Oct. 2, 2011, all that changed when the officer was struck
by a vehicle on his left side while riding his motorcycle.
Whartenby suffered a traumatic and complete amputation of his
left leg four inches below the knee. He also suffered a fractured
pelvis, broken nose, road rash, compartment syndrome in the
right forearm requiring a fascia relief cut, and a seven-inch scar
