Retired Local is active at Mini-Convention
You might have noticed some distinguished gentlemen at a table selling official NJ State
PBA 2015 Mini-Convention commemorative polo shirts outside room Palladium B at
Caesar’s in Atlantic City March 2-5.
“We had a lot of activity at our booth,” confirmed Local 600 Alternate Delegate Ed Weimmer. “We sold a lot of shirts and a lot of soon-to-be retirees came by to pick up applications
to join Local 600.”
As they stopped by to talk to the retired members, active officers learned about some of
the benefits they will receive as Local 600 members:
“We offer an insurance policy through the State PBA Legal Protection Plan for Local 600
members who still carry firearms after retirement,” Weimmer offered as one of many examples that also include vision and dental plans, among others.
“We also gave interested active members some information about how we can help them
transition into retirement so they could still be involved in the PBA,” added Local 600 State
Delegate Jim Toma. “We met with several Locals’ State Delegates and disseminated a
message to them to get back to their Locals about the statewide and local activities that we’re
involved in and how we can provide benefits for them as they retire.”
At the next table, Local 600 President Tom Lombardi offered Veterans Committee Challenge Coins to raise money for a donation to support the statue for Essex County Sheriff’s
Officers Local 183 member and National Guard Staff Sergeant Jorge Oliveira statue. Proceeds
from the $10 coins went to the State PBA Veterans Committee, on which Lombardi, a
disabled veteran himself, serves.
“We gave out booklets and literature about the Veterans Committee,” Lombardi mentioned. “A lot of our members are veterans, and many active guys had questions about the
military.”
Inside the convention hall, State PBA 2nd Vice-President Pete Andreyev made it a point
to mention Local 600, noting that the retired Local is continuously growing more active within the State PBA, and suggested that all members become aware of the capabilities and offers
of the Local.
“We’re very honored to be stepping up to take our part and doing our part for President
Colligan as an active part of the PBA,” Weimmer noted about Andreyev’s announcement.
“Many members of Local 600 laid the foundation for the State PBA throughout the years.”
As for the polo shirts – proceeds of which went to the State PAC as well as Local 600’s
scholarship fund that gives out ten $500 scholarships each year – Weim
