with keeping my left hand up, so my trainer kept yelling at me to
keep my hands up.”
If only as a passing thought, Teller pondered the similarities
between training as a boxer and training as a police officer.
“When you’re heading into a scene, you’re focused on your
academy training. It’s the same thing in the ring,” he later
explained. “Everything has to do with your training. And training
for the fight helps you on the job. It keeps you in shape, and you
never know when you’re going to have an altercation in the jail or
on the street.”
It appears as if all of Teller’s hard work paid off. At 1:23 of the first
round, the referee stopped the match in Teller’s favor.
When the matches ended and the sweat had been wiped from
the ring, the fighters embraced following a collective job well done.
As Teller described:
“Everyone shakes hands and celebrates that we made money
for a special cause.”
