After hearing of the line-of-duty deaths of five officers in Dallas, members of Paramus Local 186 decided to show support not only for the fallen, but for their families, as well.
In July, the Local called a special meeting asking members to vote on a relief gesture for the families of each sniper attack victim. The gesture would require the board to reach into its death benefits fund – a safety net that has been in place for years, though rarely touched to help alleviate some of the financial strain brought on by line-of-duty death” before period.
The results were unanimous. Every member voted to have representative officers fly to Dallas and present a check to the Dallas Police Association in the amount of $ 10,000 to help lift some of the financial burden for the victims’ families.
“ We knew we had to put that money towards the( slain officers’) families,” said Local 186 President Michael Cebulski.“ We did it because it was the right thing to do.” d
