Team Amey continues to roll for Bobby
Team Amey 302 never stops, which is the way its namesake
would have wanted it.
Team Amey is the legacy of Phillipsburg Police Officer and former Local 56 President Robert Amey. Bobby lost his battle with
leukemia on Nov. 6, 2012 at the age of 35.
Team Amey has been competing in and hosting a series of
events to raise money for scholarships and community improvements in Bobby’s name. The next event will be the Bob Amey
Memorial Ride on May 17.
Schedule to run rain or shine, the ride will depart from Walter’s
Park on Meyner Road in Phillipsburg at 11 a.m. The ride will end
at Alpha Park on Vulcanite Avenue in Bob’s native Alpha. The cost
is $25 per rider, and there will be a picnic following the ride with
music by Naked Jake.
“I am blessed to have had a great friend who even at his darkest moments continued to display compassion, guidance, and a
true warrior spirit that spread to everyone he came into contact,”
said close friend and Pohatcong Township Police Officer Anthony Goodell. “Bobby was not only one of the toughest officers in
New Jersey, but also one of its finest leaders. On many occasions
he displayed his impeccable leadership abilities while on the
road, in the line of duty and as the PBA President.”
Team Amey 302 is named for Bobby’s badge number and consists of more than 60 people, including law enforcement officers,
family and friends. Team Amey 302 was established to enter and
compete in Tough Mudder competitions as a way to raise money
for Bobby and his family.
The team’s motto is “Blood is Thicker than Mud,” and that has
been shown to be true with all the support that Bobby and his
family have received. “He was a guy you could always count on,”
notes fellow Phillipsburg Detective Jim McDonald. “Now we’re
trying to do what we can to help out in any way we can.”
During his time with Phillipsburg Police Department, he also
participated in the Community Policing Program. He was previously employed with Northampton County Prison where he also

served on the SERT Team. He was a 2004 graduate of Morris
County Police Academy.
In addition to his beloved wife, Nicole and his parents, he is
survived by a son, Hunter Robert and a daughter, Haylee.
Team Amey 302 wristbands are now available for purchase at
