Bay Head-Mantoloking Local 347 member George Duffy, who
has participated in every Polar Bear Plunge since it was first
held at Jenison’s in Point Pleasant Beach in 1993, shows off his
robe commemorating his efforts to a Special Olympian Friend.
Of the 75 members of Hunterdon County Local 188, 13
plungers spanned the range from first-timers to seasoned
vets. “There are guys who are going in for the first time
and guys who haven’t done it in five years,” said member Brian McNally.
In his third Plunge, McNally had some advice for those
dreading the cold: “Get in and have a blast. Then get out
and get dry. But no matter how long you stay in, we’re all
out here to support the Special Olympics and we’re happy
to do it.”
