Beside the likeness of the officer is a kneeling firefighter and police dog. The two marble pillars included in the memorial represent the World Trade Center towers that were attacked on Sept. 11, 2001. Placed on one of the towers is a police badge and folded flag and on the other tower is a fireman’s helmet. There are two granite pedestals that pay tribute to those who rose up “In the Line of Duty” on that tragic day. The next addition to the memorial will feature a wall listing all Atlantic City first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The memorial was sponsored by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority and the city. Organizers said this site, on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, will be a living memorial and constant reminder of the city’s dependence upon and appreciation for all those who served. d 27
