20 NEW JERSEY COPS ■ DECEMBER 2014 T H E LO C A L A message from State 600 P A G Delegate James Toma I would like to thank everyone for making my first year as your State Delegate a successful one. I have certainly appreciated the support from the Local 600 Executive Board, the State PBA Executives and of course, the membership of Local 600. E For Retired Police and Corrections Officers Jim Toma We all have challenging times ahead of us, but we have learned that in our unity, there is strength. We have been brought into the general population of the State PBA, however with that acceptance comes responsibility. The benefits of Local 600 We Local 600 members have shown a willingness and desire to raise our voices in support of all law enforcement that we, as elder statesmen, fought too hard and served too long to see our rights be trampled on for political gains. Retired Police & Corrections Officers are eligible to join Local 600, which is located at the NJ State PBA office in Woodbridge. Annual dues are $50 and benefits of membership include: • Maintaining dual membership in your current Local and Local 600 • Five Safety Cards per year • Access to the “Members Only” section of the NJSPBA Local 600 website, which includes optional benefits such as financial planning, Aflac Insurance and information about dental and vision insurance plans, life insurance plans and purchasing memorial property • Monthly delivery of New Jersey COPS magazine, the official publication of the NJ State PBA • A monthly State PBA Watch List which updates legislation affecting current and retired PBA/PFRS members • A list of job openings for retired officers • Survivors Bulletin • Annual newsletter • Monthly luncheon meeting: Second Tuesday of each month. Log on to www.njspba600.org for location and time We all must continue to be engaged in the political process because that’s how we can affect change. I will continue to do my best to keep all of you informed along the way. Best wishes, and happy holidays. d News and notes from first vice-president John Sharkey Dues card/Courtesy cards: To prevent the many problems we had last year, we have implemented new procedures on the purchase of cards. These will ensure your cards arrive in a timelier manner. New office hours: Normally there will be someone in the office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until noon and on Tuesdays until 3 p.m. Please call before coming to make sure someone will be there. Death notifications: Call the office and ask for Trustee Steve Kaminsky or myself, or give all information to the person you reach. Hopefully, if information is received before services, members can be notified who would like to attend. If services have already taken place, we will assist the family in any way we can. Contact me for more information. Thank you, and I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. d We’re all Devils Come join us for a night with the New Jersey Devils when they play the Buffalo Sabres on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Prudential Center in Newark.
