efforts before, but I have personally witnessed our team go
out every other day for a few weeks to police departments
all over the state. And rather than complain about being
busy, the climate at Cop 2 Cop is one of gratitude. “Thank
goodness they are allowing us to help,” is a common theme
at work for all of us, even after 14 years this past month of
doing this work, day in and day out.
The resilience, and what has been researched post 9/11
– the “post traumatic growth” – is potentiated when an officer has a strong sense of self-awareness, spirituality and
family. Beyond the critical incident work as a police officer,
I have witnessed heart-wrenching acts of kindness regularly by officers in the aftermath of tragedy. Corrections
officers volunteering their own time to guard a home after
a cop dies to offer comfort to a child, Christmas gifts in
