Bridgewater Local 174 supports
men’s health in Movember
About 40 members of Bridgewater Township Local 174 took
part in “Movember,” when men spend the month of November growing mustaches to raise money for men’s health awareness.
Police officers began growing their mustaches Oct. 29, ending Nov. 26.
“Each person had to make a donation, and the PBA will
match the total donations,” Local 174 President Bob Reilly said.
To participate, each officer had to donate a minimum of $5.
Reilly said the goal is to raise a total of $250, and match that for
a total of $500.
And the police department is holding a competition, with
dispatchers and others to judge the mustaches based on style,
thickness and color.
The winners, Reilly said, will get a trophy to display in their
offices. He said they will announce the winner at the PBA meeting in December, and they are looking to get a perennial trophy
for the winner to pass on each year.
“Hopefully down the road we will still have the tradition of
this,” he said.
Sergeant Scott Hobbs said it is interesting to see officers with
mustaches.
“In law enforcement, you don’t see that very often,” he said.
“A lot of wives can’t wait for the mustaches to go.” d
Union City Local 8
raises money for breast
cancer awareness
Union City Local 8, with the approval of Police Chief
Richard Molinari spent October wearing pink mourning
bands or pink breast cancer pins to show support and
awareness for breast cancer.
The union sold these items – donated by Local 8 State
Delegate Chris Scardino and Sergeant Steven Matulewicz –
for $5 each with all proceeds going to The Breast Cancer
Society. Their goal was to raise $1,000, but in less than a
month, the Local nearly doubled that goal, raising $1,783.
On Oct. 23, Scardino and Local 8 members, along with
Union City Commissioners and its mayor, Brian Stack, presented a check to representatives from Susan G. Komen for
the Cure New Jersey.
“This is the first annual fundraiser for breast cancer
awareness,” promised Scardino. d

Local 249 runs like the champ
On Nov. 15, Burlington County Corrections Local 249 members participated in the Rocky Run 5k/10k. The annual event
challenged runners to “channel their inner stallion” in support
of Special Olympics Philadelphia. Like the film’s iconic scene,
the run ended in front of the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
