“It touches home,” Leslie said. “I've been there a few times
myself in Frank’s position. It was a relief that with the training he
had, he was able to get there so quickly.”

Of course, there is no one more grateful than Charles Borges
for Melillo’s quick-thinking and actions on that stifling hot day in
July. Charles said he later learned during treatment that he had
suffered a massive heart attack. That hit home because that was
what killed his and Leslie’s father at 45-years-old, the same age
Charles turned last summer.
Charles’ heart attack affected the main artery of his heart and
doctors told him that only about 5 percent of patients survive. He
said he was amazed to learn the defibrillation Melillo applied
saved his life since he uses the same equipment in his work as a
firefighter.
“There really are no words. It’s just amazement. It’s unbelievable,” Borges continued. “I just thank God there was a guardian
angel there looking out for me and that Frank was there and
saved my life.”

Charles has not yet returned to work and will undergo
surgery soon. But along with his brother, meeting Milello – again
- is something he has to do.
“I’ll probably give him a big hug,” Borges exclaimed. “My wife
said she wants to give him a big hug. Because of Frank, I was able
to spend another Christmas with my kids and my family. It’s a
weird feeling, but it’s a good feeling. I count my blessings, that’s
for sure.” d
