Snow Bowl IX Extra Points
A Snow Bowl victory for Local 116
It wasn’t the first time Port Authority Local 116 put a team
together to compete in a football tournament, but for many members, it was the first time playing together at Snow Bowl IX for
Special Olympics at MetLife Stadium on March 20.
“I had dreams of playing at MetLife Stadium as a kid, so it was a
great experience especially because it was a great cause to raise
money for,” said Local 116 Officer and Team Captain Richard
Alvarado.
The 15-member team previously played in a tournament run by
the Hispanic American Law Enforcement Association in Jersey City,
winning it all, and they fared no differently at the Snow Bowl despite
the snowy conditions. Local 116 won the competitive division of law
enforcement by a score of 7-6 in the championship game.
“It was snowing the whole time and it actually came down to the
last drive,” explained Alvarado. “The other team was driving to score
and we stopped them at the one-yard line to win the game.”
The Port Authority Police raised more than $2,000 for Special
Olympics New Jersey and plans on returning next year.
“We plan on coming back next year, hopefully to defend our title,”
promised Alvarado. d
Local 9 hits its goal
Team Hackensack Local 9’s 15 members again participated in
Snow Bowl IX March 20-22 and raised $2,225 for Special Olympics
New Jersey.
