“For me personally, his name on the wall is a
culmination of his journey. Chris paid the greatest
sacrifice of all, and that sacrifice should be
remembered and honored forever with other
officers who did the same.”
DAVE PASSARETTI
Upon arrival, the first stop for these riders will be Goodell’s name,
freshly etched into the 304-foot-long blue-gray marble Memorial
Wall. There, they will reflect on the loss of a friend, colleague and
brother officer, and surrounded by what can be called nothing short
of family, those emotions will again make them feel what Police
Week is all about.
“For me personally, his name on the wall is a culmination of his
journey,” surmised Local 217 President Dave Passaretti. “Chris paid
the greatest sacrifice of all, and that sacrifice should be remembered
and honored forever with other officers who did the same.”
Those 22,134 officers who have sacrificed their lives since 1791
continue to inspire thousands to bicycle hundreds of miles to join
tens of thousands who make Police Week the most epic showing of
the best of what law enforcement has to offer.
Perhaps that’s why Mitchell has but one aspiration for the brotherhood to experience National Police Week:
“I wish every cop would do it at least once.” d
