Kevin C. Lyons for PFRS Trustee Brother Kevin Lyons is the PBA-endorsed candidate running for Retiree Representative to the Police and Fire Retirement System Board of Trustees. It took less than two hours in August for Kevin to earn enough votes to be nominated. Here are some of the credentials that make Kevin the choice for retired law enforcement officers in New Jersey: • Served in the Long Beach Township Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 2013 after serving in patrol, community policing and the Detective Bureau. • Served on the executive board of Long Beach Island Local 175 and Long Beach Township Local 373, where he was the State Delegate from 2000 to 2013. • Currently a member of the State Health Benefits Design Committee where he has protected retirees, especially Chapter 330 retirees, by prohibiting low-cost managed plans to be considered, which would increase contributions for these members. • Served as the co-chair of the NJ State PBA Legislative Committee. • Lead administrator for the PBA Legal Protection Plan since 2008, and has grown the assets from less than $2 million to current assets of more than $8 million. • Created a legal protection plan for retirees, which protects them when legally carrying a firearm. • Has earned several certificates from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, including a certificate in public plan policy. • Has served as commissioner for the Police Training Commission. • Currently a member of Local 600. • Earned his Associates Degree in 1993 from Ocean County College and his Bachelor’s Degree in 2005 from The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, all while serving as a law enforcement officer.
