A GOLF CLASSIC CONTINUED FROM PAGE 39
On Oct. 3, Mercer Oaks Golf Course in West Windsor Township will proudly fly the flags of the fallen officers who sacrificed their lives serving their communities. Golf foursomes and survivors of the fallen will gather again for a day of remembrance and tribute while driving the mission— and the golf ball— forward through the 18-hole course.
“ When you see the flags of the fallen officers out at the golf course and you see the families and survivors at the outing, I think that’ s where it’ s most rewarding,” stated Papero.“ It just shows that we’ re all family, and we still remember them and that their legacy still lives on.”
After nine years of hosting one of Garden State C. O. P. S.’ largest fundraisers, Preslar is relieved to know that the golf outing will continue to benefit survivor families like her own. And while she was thankful to have the huge job of organizing the event lifted from her shoulders by the Mercer County Conference, she couldn’ t help but still be involved in the process, reaching out to past sponsors and survivors to share the details of the event and let them know that it will still benefit the Chapter in every way it has in the past.
“ I’ m very thankful that they’ re doing it, but I’ m not surprised,” Preslar stated.“ These guys and the PBA are so good to our Chapter. All you have to do basically is ask for help and if they can make it happen, they do. I’ m thrilled that it’ s continuing.”
Just weeks away from the 1:15 p. m. shotgun start, Papero and Pellegrino continue to spread the word of the event throughout the PBA, stressing the impact of registering to support the cause that will always be a priority to law enforcement. Their hard work has quickly filled one of the Mercer Oaks golf courses, with some overflow into the country club’ s second golf green
Mercer County Conference members meet to plan the 10th Annual Survivor Golf Classic, held at the Mercer Oaks Golf Course in West Windsor for the first time.
— a sure sign that the 2017 Survivor Golf Classic has been saved by a group of law enforcement who will do anything it takes to make sure their fallen brothers and sisters’ families are cared for long after their sacrifice.
“ The key to this whole component is that they need to be remembered at all times, whether it’ s pedaling your bike on the [ Police ] Unity Tour or putting on your own uniform in the morning,” Pellegrino stressed.“ This is about the families that the event benefits. We’ re just the men behind the scenes. They’ re the real heroes.” d
