Help apprehend
officer’s attacker
PBA’s COP SHOT program activated to capture suspects
who jumped Long Branch Local 10 member
In the early morning hours of Sept. 20, Long
Branch Local 10 member Michael Monahan, a
12-year law enforcement veteran, was on duty
and patrolling the area of Westwood and Bath
avenues when he reported seeing several people
holding flashlights near an abandoned building.
The suspects fled as the officer exited his car, and Monahan went on the chase. The officer was able to catch one, but
was then struck on the back of the head and knocked unconscious. It is unknown if the assailant or assailants took
anything from Monahan.
When fellow officers were unable to reach Monahan by
radio, they began to search, and were only able to spot him
lying face down thanks to his flashlight on the ground.
Monahan was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical
Center in Neptune, where he was treated and observed for
any head injuries.
“He’s still out of work but he’s recovering,” confirmed Long
Branch Local 10 State Delegate David S. Graminski. As for
the assailant, “We’re all anxious to get the guy caught.”
