12 NEW JERSEY COPS ■ MAY 2014 Going Local EXTRA: Local 14 celebrates 79th Passaic Local 14 has a ball Life in Passaic Local 14 is looking good and 2014 is becoming a great year for the Local members and the LOCAL 14 department. Eight new officers were hired in 2013 that are currently patrolling the streets of Passaic, and seven more graduated from the Passaic County Police Academy in March. These sentiments were related to more than 300 sheriffs, freeholders, assembly people, congressmen and other dignitaries on April 11 at the Brownstone in Paterson for Local 14’s 79th Anniversary Ball. “Delegates came from more than 30 Locals from all across the state,” noted Local 14 State Delegate Marc Kovar about his contemporaries from Ocean, Monmouth, Bergen and Hudson Counties. “They come out to our ball every year and every year their participation gets bigger and bigger.” At the memorable event, Local 14 handed out awards to some of the people who support the Passaic Department and law enforcement as a whole: Congressman Bill Pascrell was awarded Legislator of the Year, and State PBA Legal Protection Plan Administrator Kevin Lyons was awarded State PBA Man of the Year. Paterson Local 1 was named Local of the Year. “They have a trauma center in Paterson and any time one of our cops was shot or stabbed they really put the hospital on lockdown for all of our guys,” Kovar said. “They really go above and beyond to help us out, and we just wanted to honor them for the support they give us.” P
