Bear Plunge
Family first for Essex County Sheriffs
As the pouring rain soaked the boardwalk an hour before
plunge time, PBA members and families took cover at the Spicy
Cantina restaurant to stay dry before the dive. In the middle of
the overflowing crowd, father-daughter duo — and Essex Coun-
ty Sheriffs’ Officers and Court Attendants Local 183 members
— Pete and Stephanie Dolasco prepared to take the plunge for
the first time.
For all of Pete’s 13 years on the job with Local 183, it was al-
ways his goal to expand his support for SONJ beyond the Torch
Run and the Plane Pull by taking the plunge in Seaside Heights.
This year, he knew there was no better time to attend the event,
because he’d be joining his daughter as she completed her first
year as an Essex County officer.
“I’m expecting to freeze, but it’s for a good cause,” Stephanie
noted. “It’s just good fun, and it’s about meeting new agencies
and getting know members.”
Pete was proud to support SONJ with his daughter in blue
and knew it was the perfect opportunity for her to experience
the brotherhood and sisterhood of the NJ State PBA.
“Even though we all work for different agencies and counties,
we’re all brothers and sisters,” he insisted. “We’re one.”d
