NEW JERSEY COPS
■ MARCH 2019
Mini Convention is
a really big show
Another successful NJ State PBA Mini Convention is in the books. More
than 1,200 attendees on Tuesday, 1,350 on Wednesday and still more than
1,000 on Thursday, the last day! The attendance and your attention are a
testament that union involvement is alive and well.
Sometimes, we don’t know how to properly promote everything the
PBA does for its members. We dedicate a page in NJ COPS Magazine
Patrick
Colligan called “Member Benefits,” but it’s been there every issue and most of you
probably haven’t read it in a while.
So, we realized it was time to brag a bit and try to cut down the time on our recruiting
meetings. We started a project a few months ago and reached out to Joshua Sigmund,
who has worked for NJ COPS for many years and is now the owner of L.E.O. Videos. Josh
saw our vision and is familiar with our operation so it was a perfect fit for him to pro-
duce a video showcasing all the benefits that we provide for members.
We rolled out the video on the first day of the Mini Convention. Might as well play to a
packed house. The reaction was tremendous. You can check out at the video at njspba.
com.
We also rolled out information about our Nashville convention at the Gaylord Opry-
land this October. The details are posted on our website, and we are looking forward to
this new convention destination. Opryland is a four-star resort and if you book through
the PBA, we’ve included the resort fee, three breakfasts and a downtown welcome re-
ception, as well as discounted parking and 50 percent off tickets to the massive water
park.
Online booking is available, or you can stop by the office to fill out an application. We
are looking forward to another great convention. I hope you can join us.
The Mini Convention once again included the Jersey’s Strongest PBA hockey team
playing the afternoon of day two, and they didn’t disappoint this year, either. They
played NYFD/EMS at the Flyers Skate Zone in Atlantic City and brought home a re-
sounding victory. Luckily for the players (and an official), three fewer ambulances were
needed this year. And they raised money for a great cause.
And a final thanks to our dear friend Steve Kalafer and his sons, Josh and Jonathan,
for rounding up the total of the 50/50 raffle on the second day — WAY UP! We appreci-
ate his love for law enforcement. (And the few extra bucks are appreciated, too!)
