member those who put on their gun and badge every day and
do it willingly. He has endured the Police Unity Tour ride in past
years and puts on his Class A uniform no matter how hot and
humid to fulfill the mission that all officers have every day on
the job and beyond.
But this time of year is special to Iliadis for many reasons.
“It’s a solemn time of year when all the memorials kind of tie
in together,” he said. “It’s special because the job is vital and
it’s dangerous. But it’s also a brotherhood, and it’s important to

NEW JERSEY COPS
■ JUNE 2018
Officers who did not make it to the New Jersey Law Enforce-
ment Memorial Service this year, or any past year, hopefully
took a moment of silence on their own to remember those who
made the ultimate sacrifice. And officers who did not attend
can think about the words from Cliffside Park Local 96 member,
John O’Toole, who has been on the job for 23 years and has been
to the memorial many of those years.
“It makes me appreciate all the women and men who do the
job,” O’Toole declared. “It’s also a moment of reflection to look
back on the job we do and understand that we’re all human. It
makes you very humble, and it’s an event that we all should ap-
preciate.”
