Police Unit y Tour The Tour continues Roxbury Township Local 311 rides with student initiative to honor the fallen ■ STORY AND PHOTOS BY AMBER RAMUNDO The streets outside Eisenhower Middle School were quiet as usu- al, with school in session on this sunny Wednesday afternoon. All of that changed at noon when traffic was brought to a halt. At first, there were three, then five, then 15, until suddenly, Ey- land Avenue was swarmed with bicycle riders headed to Horseshoe Lake. This was the Roxbury Township Student Unity Tour, where young cyclists were on a mission to join the thousands of New Jer- sey law enforcement officers who ride for those who died each May. The purpose of the ride was printed on yellow bands strapped to each of the seventh-and-eighth-grader’s wrists – names of officers killed in the line of duty. Sound familiar? The students of Eisenhower Middle School, located in Succasun- na, have spent three years using the Police Unity Tour as a frame- work for curricular growth and campaign awareness in the class- room.
