Kinnelon Local presents Colonel Grossman Kinnelon Local 341 hosted nationally acclaimed military professional, novelist, educator and mental health advocate, Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman, for a riveting lecture titled “The Bullet Proof Mind.” Members from more 30 police departments from Trenton to Kinnelon gathered at Kinnelon High School on April 19 for the all-day seminar that discussed the necessity of mental preparation to face and manage traumatic events on the job. “It was hours of edge-of-your-seat information that is obviously vital to our career field,” explained Local 341 State Delegate Matthew Solari who helped organize the seminar after seeing Lieutenant Grossman’s “Safe Schools” lecture in 2014. Grossman’s credibility amongst law enforcement is demonstrated by a decorated career of accomplishments, including five patents, four pub- lished novels, two children’s books and six non-fiction books. His works of literature are inspired by his experiences as a U.S. Army Ranger, paratroop- er and psychology professor at West Point. “If you haven’t seen him speak, you’re really missing out,” stressed Solari. The presentation is a segment of Grossman’s “Killology Research Group” series that tours the world. “The Bullet Proof Mind” provided a vital presen- tation of information targeted to the mindset of law enforcement while re- sponding to traumatic events like shootings and car accidents, which better prepare men and women to condition a healthy mindset for the response to trauma. “It comes down to the mental preparation that you need to prepare yourself for dealing with whatever incident comes your way,” Solari stated. “This was my second time seeing (Grossman) and he never disappoints.” d At “The Bullet Proof Mind” seminar, from left, North Morris Local 198 members Jorge Reyes and Scott Ricker, Kinnelon Local 341 members Patrick McDonnell, Mark Ehrenburg, Colonel Dave Grossman, Local 341 members Nicholas Cifelli, Rickey Ferriola, David Crouthamel and State Delegate Mat- thew Solari. 84 new jersey cops ■ JUNE 2017
