Woodland Park Local knocks it out of the park
The big hits were plentiful during the fourth annual Woodland Park Families Behind the Badge softball tournament on May 19.
But not as big as the home run this organization hit with the help of Woodland Park Local 173. The tournament, which is organized by Woodland Park Council members Tracy Kallert and Vincent DeCesare, as well as Kallert’ s daughter Kaitlyn, generated two prominent donations.
The first went to the family of Jersey City Lieutenant Christopher Robateau, who was struck and killed by a vehicle while checking on the welfare of another driver who had been involved in an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike in January.
The second donation was made to the NJ State PBA Survivor & Welfare Fund. PBA Executive Vice President Marc Kovar accepted the donation at the Borough of Woodland Park Municipal Building. Families Behind the Badge has now donated more than $ 30,000 to the Survivor
& Welfare Fund, according to Local 173 State Delegate Dan Dugan.
Members of Local 173 joined members from Montclair Local 73 and the Jersey City PD to form the teams in the tournament. d
