thin blue line. The finishing touch appeared in the form of a
message scribbled in Levy’s handwriting on the top of the jar
that read:
We will always be here to protect you.
– Spring Lake Heights Police
The next day, as Sammi finished up breakfast in her pa-
jamas, she noticed a police car pull into her driveway. Levy
emerged from the vehicle like a superhero in uniform, there
to save the day as she presented Sammi with the homemade
nightlight.
“Put this in your window at night, and if bad guys try to
come in, they will know that Spring
Lake Heights Police Department is
protecting you,” Levy instructed.
Sammi listened carefully, and that
night when the sky turned dark, the
young girl plugged in her new night-
light and placed it on her windowsill.
The string lights illuminated her room,
filling it with a protective shield. Lau-
ren kissed her daughter goodnight and
tucked her in as she usually did. This
time, the room stayed quiet. Within 15
minutes, Sammi was fast asleep.
“I always want to make a difference,
whether it was for a child or an adult,”
Levy stresses. “I want to go above and beyond my normal job
to create that comfort in this world in any way I can.”
Bradley Beach Local 50 member Samantha Levy created a homemade
nightlight to help an 8-year-old girl fall asleep at night.
