Another thank-you note from Dianne After the NJSPBA Hockey Team and the NJ State Police Ice Hockey Club played a charity game to support Mallory’s Army, Dianne Grossman, the mother of Mallory Rose who took her own life because of horrifi c cyberbullying, posted the following words of thanks on Facebook: January 2 at 10:25 AM… The Hockey Game... where do I begin... I’ve struggled these past few days...more than normal. Leav- ing 2018, isn’t easy. In 2017, I got a message from a police officer that put my life on a complete change of course. The foundation was in its infancy stage. I was barely able to get out of bed some days. The idea of a charity Hockey Game was presented. I ac- cepted. Little did I know what I said yes to…I said yes to a life with men & women in blue. My brothers & sisters. #ourblood- runsbluetoo As a child, I remember a police officer was our hero. Today – they’ve proven that theory. These same people who run into gunfire, wear bulletproof vests, accept the 911 call...As if that’s not enough, on days off, they volunteer...raise money for charities... toys for kids, hos- pital visits, you name it... For our family, they are our heroes. I mean it. Our family, we look at them, their wives, their children...they are truly heroes. These men and women took on the challenge to raise mon- ey for us. They’ve vowed for Mallory’s Army to be an annual event. They live up to their word every December. I know that each year it will only get better and better. A time of year where we end on a positive note: It’s allowed us to put the “New” back in “New Year” and to feel happy, not just say it. The night of the hockey game – slight fever and all – I was happy! It’s impos- sible to describe how your gut and heart can burn with pain while joy floods your soul. But that is ex- actly what they gave us... Hope. Today, many of these officers will say goodbye to a dear friend, an officer who ended his life. I’m not really sure what the message in my post means. All I can say...OUR life is better because of all of you. THANK YOU. www.njcopsmagazine.com ■ JANUARY 2019 37
