Raritan Township
awards heroes
for fi re rescue
The Raritan Township Committee meeting was a sea of
blue on Feb. 5, as officers gathered in support of three Raritan
Township Local 337 heroes being honored that night. Local
337 members Robert Schenck, Adam Swiatek and Brett Szat-
kowski were presented with a proclamation award by Raritan
Township Mayor Jeff Kuhl after their fearless response to a
structure fire saved a woman’s life.
On Jan. 22, Schenck, Swiatek and Szatkowski responded
to a residence engulfed in heavy flames. While performing a
search of the fully involved structure, the officers discovered
a 75-year-old woman sitting on a downstairs couch. The of-
ficers quickly sprang into action to help the elderly woman,
who was also disabled, evacuate the home. The three Local
337 members worked together to carry the woman to a win-
dow, where she was passed through to safety.
