Fort Lee Local event off and running
On June 11, Fort Lee Local 245 held its inaugural “Running
for our Youth” 5K and one-mile walk.
Considering it was the first year, the event was a huge suc-
cess. The run/walk attracted 534 participants, most of them be-
ing young people.
In addition to the staggering number of participants, the 5K
raised $38,000. All proceeds will benefit the youth in Fort Lee
through the William T. Burch’s Children’s Fund. Burch was a
Fort Lee officer who was lost in the line of duty in 1966.
“The event was an enormous success,” explained Local 245
President Thomas Porto. d
