Since 2012, State Corrections Day on July 30 offi cially
has honored Local 105 members and all offi cers who
work in New Jersey’s state correctional facilities and
units. It is also a day to remember those who walked
this beat and made the ultimate sacrifi ce, including
Fred Baker, who was killed at Bayside State Prison on
July 30, 1997. Baker’s legacy has inspired so many
offi cers, and it motivated the State of New Jersey to
recognize the contributions they make to public safe-
ty every day. And so State Corrections Day 2018 was
also a day to celebrate the Correctional Police Offi cer.
