Grace and agility hallmarking NJ State PBA hockey manifest-
ed in David McAndrew’s first goal against the NJ State FMBA
on March 25. McAndrew, a Morris County Sheriff’s Department
Local 151 member, headed into the offensive zone all alone
and promptly tripped over what can only be assumed was the
blue line. He managed to tip the puck far enough forward for
East Hanover Local 227’s Stephen Scherer to slap a shot off
goalie Mike Anderson of the Linden Fire Department. McAn-
drew then regained just enough footing to push the puck past
Anderson and watch it slide gently into the net.
“I was just trying to poke the puck forward to my guy and
I missed. Then I missed again,” McAndrew alibied. “But I was
able to get the goal. It was almost like it was meant to be.”
Make no mistake, however, McAndrew dominated this 11-2
PBA triumph with Lemieux-like presence. He’s big, fast, te-
nacious and skilled, and he scored three of the PBA’s first five
goals during the first period-and-a-half when the firefighters
were still pushing back against their law enforcement brothers
on the ice and the scoreboard.
“I knew he had it. I saw it in practice,” PBA Captain and Mon-
mouth County Sheriff’s Officers Local 314 Mike Schulze con-
firmed about McAndrew, who netted four goals on the night.
“He’s a big guy. He’s got great hands. He can finish. It was just a
matter of time, and tonight he got a couple of good goals. He’s
a great player.”

Thank you for your support
At the NJ State PBA hockey team’s game against the Navesink Coun-
try Club hockey team on March 4, players shared a post-game moment
with Jerry Sliberman, Steve Zaretsky and Kenny Shamus. Those three,
along with Josh Shamansky and Adam Grossman, were awarded PBA
Silver Cards by Saddle River Boro Local 348. They provided the initial
financial support to start the PBA hockey team.
