Helping out in Atlantic City
Good Samaritan’s actions get national praise
Finally, somebody is stepping up to help law enforcement of-
ficers in Atlantic City and the members of Atlantic City Local 24.
That would be Atlantic City resident Ibn Ali Miller, whose
quick action in breaking up a street brawl between two high
school boys on March 20 received praise from people through-
out the country, including a shout-out on Twitter from NBA star
LeBron James.
A video that went viral on the internet and social media cap-
tured the fighters laughing and instigating friends. Viewers who
tuned in heard Miller’s powerful words.
“You’re almost men – 14, 15, 16 – start acting like it,” Miller in-
structed as he created distance between the two young men by
standing in between them like an MMA referee. “You all got par-
ents. Don’t make your parents look like this. I know where you
(are) from. Your parents worked hard to get where they’re at.”
Miller, a 27-year-old married father of six, then continued to
drop some truth on the boys’ callous spectators.
“Everybody with your phones out? Y’all the real cowards! Re-
cord that too,” Ali accused, then turning his message back to
the fighters. “Anybody who can laugh at you while you’re upset
ain’t your friend.”
Ali continued to mediate between the two teens and refused
to leave until they shook hands. They inevitably did.
On March 22, the city council in Atlantic City honored Miller

for his Good Samaritan actions.
“A dozen positive lessons could be taught from that four-minute
video alone,” Atlantic City Mayor Donald Guardian expressed in a
statement. “He fearlessly spoke so much truth to those young kids.
We need more adults in the world that are willing to step in to help
pull back our youth from the edge.”
