The money went to “Powers Promise,” which was creat-
ed by Trent’s parents, Kim and Trevor, to promote awareness
and education about DMD. The group also partners with
other Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy organizations to help
find a cure.
That led to the idea to honor Trent by making him a mem-
ber of the department. Chief Zarro reached out to Kim and
Trevor, asking if they could come to the council meeting.
Sabatino said the original plan was for some photos and
handshakes with Powers, but the night turned into much
more. His family had no idea what was in store for him.
“As far as they knew, they were coming for a meet and
greet,” he remarked. “It was a surprise. He was smiling from
ear to ear and filled with emotion.”
Since the event, he has been the talk of not only the
town, but the country as well. News12 and CBS presented
reports about Powers. The FBI, CIA and DEA plan to hold a
mock raid on April 28 in Newark to raise money for Powers
Promise. d
