Our first time seeing the children of Niños Con Bendicion was in 2009. We knew that we wanted to do more for them but was never sure what other than a donation here or there. A little over a year ago, our dear friend Mary posted a picture of a little girl who needed to be sponsored. We jumped at the opportunity.
Last July, we again were able to travel to Guatemala with our friends. In addition to seeing the children perform and to tour the wonderful addition, we got to meet our sponsored child and her family. What an amazing experiences!! When we first met her, it was at one of the performances. She seemed very shy but did“ hang” with us old people quite a bit. I told her that she could go play with the kids and she would for a while but would always come back.
At the family meeting Tino and Lesbi were gracious enough to open up their home for the meeting. At first we all were very nervous but we soon began talking and laughing and learning about each other’ s family and everyday lives and struggles. It helped that her parents spoke English very well. At the meeting she sat between her mother and I and played with the gifts that we brought her. When it was time to go, we took pictures, exchanged hugs, cried and promised to see each other again.
