Meeting Fatima
A year ago, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to Guatemala with a lovely
group of people. My sister had gone before and had told me about some of the
organizations that we would be working with. I was excited about going and helping
people. I had absolutely no idea that it would change my life.
I had been sponsoring Fatima for 2 years before the trip. When I saw her for the
first time in person, I burst into tears. It suddenly connected with me that this
sweet, funny, beautiful child was the person that I had been supporting. In that
moment, I felt so grateful to have the opportunity to provide some help for her and
her family. We got to know each other over the two weeks that we were there and
she has a very special place in my heart. While I was there, I discovered that
Fatima’s family did not have a home. They stayed with family and did not have space
of their own.
I am very blessed to have had the opportunity to raise the money to
pay for Fatima’s family to build a house and it was completed at Christmas time.
I don’t think that I can stress enough that the people in the Ninos Con Bendicion
program are the most amazing, kind, grateful, generous people that I have met in my
entire life. Tino and Lesbi, who run the program, are two of my favourite people on
the planet. They devote their lives to the children in their program and make sure
that they have a good start in life.
They are currently building a youth centre at
their home to support the program. Funding is still needed for this project.
If you are thinking of sponsoring a child, DO! If you are thinking of donating toward
the Youth Centre, DO! You will not regret for one second helping out these wonderful
people.
