Waka Ama Nationals From the 29th of March to the 1st of April the school sent five Waka Ama Teams to the New Zealand Secondary School Championships at Lake Tikitapu in Rotorua. After four days of intense competition resulted in our teams bringing home 5 medals in total. ? ? ? Gold was won on the first day by the J19’s crew in the W 12 (Double Hull) - Championship Division Kingsley Smith won a bronze medal in the W1 category Championship Division J19 men won silver medals in both the W6 250 and 500 metres - Championship Division Wintec & V8 Supercars ITM 400 Visit 14th April 2011 Congratulations to Jacob Scott, Carlos Makiteiaa Tamati, Chase Shortland, Connor Forrest, Wade Duthie, Shai Findley, Wiremu Gillespie and Brandon Haumaha who were invited to an exclusive behind the scenes tour prior to the start of this event. The tour included a pit lane walk, race control and media centre tour, garage viewing as teams were preparing for racing and a V8 Supersafe presentation - a road safety and young driver training initiative. This was a chance to see what really goes on behind the scenes of New Zealand’s largest annual sport event courtesy of Wintec. ? J19 woman won silver in the W6 250 metres Championship Division The next 2 days were made up of heats and semi final races and all of our crews made it in to the Championship division for at least one of the 2 distances. The J16 woman came third in the plate division for the W6 250 metres. The school is very proud of all our students and the efforts that the put in during the competition and the training that was done in the lead up to the event.
