Outer Space Visit
On Thursday 19 May, eleven
students from 9 Taumata went to
Hopu Hopu to meet six astronauts
from NASA, USA.
The astronauts were dressed
in their official NASA blazers and had
rocket patches, which indicated how
many outer space missions they had
completed. They spoke to us about
their experiences from outer space, the rocket engines, how
they maintain hygiene and even the type of food they eat.
To make scrambled eggs they had to combine water with a
air sealed sachet - they didn’t look like normal scrambled
eggs.
The astronauts demonstrated some of their zero gravity stunts and activities which was funny to watch. We had
the opportunity to ask questions and performed a powhiri
for the astronauts.
It was a really great learning experience and pretty
cool to meet real live astronauts! We wish them well
on their trip back home and future outer space missions.
Hopefully the taonga we gifted will protect and bless
them on their journeys.

Tough Guy Tough Gal
Challenge
On July 2nd a group of Year 12 PE students battled 1500
other competitors in the annual Tough Guy Tough Gal Challenge
in Auckland.
The race was 12km long through mud up to our armpits,
under barbed wire fences, up hills and over equestrian obstacles.
Shai Findley was the first of the class to cross the finish line finishing in a time of 1hour 12 minutes.
Mrs Ranui was an absolute legend lapping both Nate and
myself. A big thank you to Ku from Nga Miro who drove us all the
way up to their event and back again. - by Apirana Priestley
