T he o rigin al sch ool , Brigham Young Academy, was established in 1875 on a one acre plot of land. In 1884 fire destroyed the building and in 1891 the institution moved to its present site. BYU’s full-time employees include approximately 1,500 teaching staff, 1,020 administration staff and 1,282 other staff personnel. Ninetyfive percent of this faculty are members of the LDS Church, while the other 5% represent 21 other faiths. BYU employees also include an additional 379 parttime faculty, 800 part-time staff and more than 11,000 students who work part-time. Full-time enrolment for the 1997 year totalled 29,011 students with another 2,238 part-time day students and 963 evening students. The “No Access” section on the map designates the construction site for the fourstoried underground public genealogical library.
