Ngaruawahia High School Kapa Haka USA Tour 1998 - Page 59 The weather along with the dryness of the air in Utah caused a few chapped lips and a rush to purchase some lip salve. Most of the billets let their charges sleep in as there was the inevitable late night after the NZ Returned Missionary Society performance the previous night. Sandy and Richard dressed up in their No.1’s and attended the morning session of the LDS Conference, which was televised throughout the state and many other places around the world. Some other members of the tour group watched the broadcast in their billets’ homes. A number of the adults undertook some serious shopping in the city and personal funds took their first dive of the tour. We heard from the airlines that Jesse Royal’s travel papers had been located in Honolulu and would be back at the Salt Lake City airport on Monday morning. That evening the group performed at a Gold & Green Ball which was organised largely in recognition of our visit. Although numbers were not high the ball attenders enjoyed the involvement and performance of the tourists in the 35-minute show. Sandy and Richard attended the Saturday morning session of conference in the Tabernacle and had to collect their admission passes the previous day.
