Ngaruawahia High School Kapa Haka USA Tour 1998 - Page 125 At Kawana Pohe’s souvenir shop on the shores of Lake Mead at Hoover Dam. At the conclusion of the tour the group headed over to Kawana Pohe’s souvenir shop to spend and enjoy the gift of iceblocks by Kawana. What a gold mine this tourist shop is. You could hardly get in the door! A large number of the group purchased items and enjoyed the view across Lake Mead before returning across the dam (and the state line) to the private vehicles to return to Boulder City. Richard Crawford and Robyn Roa took advantage of the opportunity to drive to and from the dam. On the way back there was a stop-off at the Gold Strike Casino for an evening meal (US$1.50 each) and an opportunity to experience “tipping”. Boulder City has no Casinos within its boundaries, a by-law enacted by the citizens of Boulder City. To that end the Gold Strike is right on the city boundary to catch the travellers. The Gold Strike Casino is near Hoover Dam. Pokaia, Te Whainoa, Corrie and Tutereinga having their evening meal at the Gold Strike Casino.
