Ngaruawahia High School Kapa Haka USA Tour 1998 - Page 111 The Hoover dam was quite a spectacle, built across the narrowest part of Grand Canyon with Lake Mead stretching out behind. The main highway between the neighbouring Nevada and Arizona states passes across the dam and causes the heavy traffic to slow to a 5 kph crawl as it winds down the canyon wall and across the massive dam. The group heard of talk of the future possibility of a more direct road across the Canyon. The group assembled for photos atop the parking building and then headed into the entrance tunnel to wait in the foyer for their $8 per head tour. Several hundred other tourists were waiting their turn also in the underground assembly area. On the way to Hoover Dam, just east of Boulder City (about 10-15 minutes drive). Part of Lake Mead can be seen to the left and (scary thought) it is Robyn Roa who is driving the pupil-laden vehicle ahead! Leaning over the rail of the multi-floored parking building and looking over to Hoover Dam. The traffic travelling between the states of Arizona and Nevada crosses the top of this dam at a snails pace.
