MOVING FORWARD TO PROVIDE THE BEST Workforce Training T his is an exciting time at North Florida College! Not only have we officially transitioned from North Florida Community College to North Florida College, we have also enhanced and improved several of our Career and Workforce Education Programs to better serve the needs of our region’s citizens, businesses and industries. Our programs offer both academic and career- oriented courses where students gain valuable skills and benefit from on-the-job training and industry certifications. Many of our certificate programs can be completed in one year or less to earn state and national certifications. Some of these certifications allow our graduates to continue their education through articulation and transfer to associate and even bachelor’s degree level programs. Graduates of our Advanced Manufacturing and Production Technology (AMPT) program can articulate 15 credit hours into NFC’s Associate in Science (AS) Degree in Engineering Technology program. If desired, they can then move on to four-year degree programs with the preparation and training received on our campus. The AMPT instructor works closely with industry partners to provide internships to students who are excelling in the program. Each summer our AMPT and Engineering instructors host summer camps to engage young learners and spark ideas for future careers. This past summer, NFC held three camps for middle school and high school age youth. The STEM focused camps provided opportunities for students to learn about Robotics, Mechatronics and Engineering. Our Nursing and Allied Health Department continues to be among the top colleges in Florida in graduation and placement rates. Our two-year Associate in Science Degree in Registered Nursing is among NFC’s highest-enrolled programs and our LPN to RN Bridge program allows LPNs a fast track, three-semester program, to an RN degree. Our newest 26 NORTH FLORIDA COLLEGE program, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), is offered completely online. Designed for students who hold a current RN License and an AS Degree in Nursing (ADN), this program can be completed in one year and is a great route for RNs to Rick Davis advance their careers. NFC’s associate and baccalaureate level nursing programs are nationally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), further ensuring our students receive the best training and career options. NFC’s Medical Coder/Biller program officially transitioned to an online college credit certificate program during Fall Term 2019 and saw enrollment soar due to the new online format. The program prepares students for the American Health Information Management Association’s Certified Coding Associate (CCA®) credential, identifying our graduates as well-qualified candidates for in-demand jobs across the state and nation. As this program continues to grow, we are researching a plan to offer an AS Degree in Medical Administrative Billing and Coding. The NFC Public Safety Academy continues to offer outstanding training for our region’s law enforcement and corrections officers. Our state-of-the-art training facility houses an in-door firing range and vehicle operations driving range. Students completing law enforcement or corrections may also earn up to 15 credits toward an AS Degree in Criminal Justice Technology. Our Paramedic program, nationally accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), now has a more accessible schedule for working adults. In January (Spring Term 2020), the Paramedic I
