When you first listen to these songs, you probably assume they are about a romantic relationship. What most girls don’t realize is that everything in your life whether it’s your job, parents, friends or significant other consists of interrelations. There are other ways of interpreting these songs; they have multiple meanings and messages in them. For example: “I Really Don’t Care” by Demi Lovato, there is a part of the song where she says: “Now if we meet out on the street I won't be running scared, I'll walk right up to you and put one finger in the air”. At the beginning of the verse she makes reference to a past relationship, which we assume is for an ex. Naturally you would think that the whole song is about getting over her lover? What if the song is about a relationship with a friend who hurt her, or just about her letting go of all the negativity she has faced in her life. It makes the song more relatable. Her song “Skyscraper” can seem like an all too familiar break-up song, telling young women that they are stronger than they were with their ex. 11
