“As for our circus school, our most outstanding
achievement has been
the development of a Folie philosophy. We believe
that art is born of individuals, and that a great
individual is also a great
member of a team. At Folie, we know that excellence grows through positivity and the presence
of good role models like
our trainers. We plan to
continue in this same spirit.”
Future perspective
So over the course of 15 years, Folie has
grown from a simple circus school to an
important player in the development of
a new contemporary art field in Estonia.
We are really proud that our students
have been accepted to professional scho-
ols, and that we are producing excellent
young trainers. I consider it a milestone in
our development that students who have
been with us for 10 years or more are
now continuing professionally in the field.
In 2014, our graduates staged a professional performance, “Viktor and the Yellow
Globe,” and I deem it a landmark proof of
our quality. The founders’ simple dream
has come true.
I think that we should focus on the big
picture. We need to introduce circus in
Estonia as an important art form with
its own unique aesthetic. I would like
to see more Estonian professional contemporary circus performances touring
internationally. I am looking forward to
seeing my former students in great new
productions. My dream is also to continue
with Circus Tree festival in 2015 and into
the future. As for our circus school, our
most outstanding achievement has been
the development of a Folie philosophy.
We believe that art is born of individuals,
and that a great individual is also a great
member of a team. At Folie, we know that
excellence grows through positivity and
the presence of good role models like our
trainers. And we plan to continue in this
same spirit. ///
“Viktor and the
Yellow Globe”,
coming to life.
Through the eyes of
Terje Bernadt
“Viktor and the Yellow Globe” was created by Estonia’s Folie. It was the only circus performance from the Baltics presented at RE RE RIGA! Festival in 2015. It might also be the biggest contemporary circus performance ever made in the Baltic states. So the magazine
asked the leader of Folie, Terje Bernardt, and some artists from the show to talk about the
creation process and the technical and financial difficulties that one faces when creating a
circus show in the Baltics.
