with the feeling that the absurdity they
witnessed is somehow more real than a
realistic play. It is a philosophical
understanding of life and meaning.
The absurd play reminds us of our isolation, despite being surrounded by
society and culture. Ionesco’s motivation
to write “Rhinoceros” was not
simply to criticize the horrors of Nazis, but
also to explore the mentality
of those who so easily succumbed to
their power. He reminds us not to get
rolled up in a snowball of generalizations.
He reminds us not to automatically think
what others are thinking. It’s a
story that fits in all times.
KERT&JAKOBE
Kert (Estonia) and Jakobe (Belgium) are a
hand to hand duo,
that are currently studying at the Academy for Circus and Performance Art
(ACaPa) in Tilburg, Holland. Kert and Jakobe started working together in
September, 2012.
The show is inspired by Eugène Ionesco’s
play “Rhinoceros”.
