The Power Within

Looking at our world today May sometimes cause despair , There are so many things around In desperate need of care .
But take a closer look and smile At the good that does abound , It only takes wide open eyes To see beauty all around .
Whether it seems small or trite Or seems so large and great , We must open up our minds And be prepared to wait
For an openness within our hearts To appreciate anew , And see the world despite its flaws To see what ’ s good and true .
Look closely at a butterfly At the patterns on its wings , The colours vibrant in the sun A gift that ’ s fit for kings .
Or watch a seagull in the sky , A scavenger it ’ s true , But look at how he climbs and soars Towards the clouds and through .
Behold a small child ’ s open face , His eyes still full of wonder At everything he sees around In this world that seems asunder .
This is a world more good than bad Still the need is always there , For each of us to do our best To keep it in our care .
Or we can tightly close our eyes Bury our heads in sand , And hope that someone else not us Fulfills the needs at hand .
Or we can know that each of us Has a challenge we can win . To have an impact on this world With power deep from within . news & views AUTUMN 2022 | 41
